Question:

How to correct wrong address on traffic ticket?

I had a ticket for "No Left Turn" and not having my proof of Insurance with me in the car in San Francisco. Then the officer wrote my old address in the mailing address, so I haven't received the letter with my bail amount or to contest the ticket. Also the ticket had a court date of 7/19, which is a Saturday and the court is closed !!

I tried to call the court number but I only get automated answers and it only states the portion of the ticket of not having the insurance and that it is fixable, but doesn't mention the "No Left Turn" issue. So I have 2 problems;

- I can't show up in court tomorrow as it is closed? Should I reschedule?

- How can I correct the address or inform the court to get the ticket letter sent to me to be able to contest it?

- If the automated answers on the court phone only mentions the missing insurance part of the ticket, does that mean that I don't have a "No Left Turn" ticket as well?

I'm basically stuck and don't know what to do next???

  1. You need to contact your local Clerk of Courts office on the next business day. Take your copy of the ticket, proof of current address of residence, and photo ID. Explain what happened and they will be able to help you from there.

  2. I'll have to answer this in segments.  The Officer wrote down the address that was provided.  If the information is incorrect on you drivers license, or plates, that's another violation.  You'll have to straighten that out with the DMV.  Since the court is closed tomorrow, you'll have to wait until Monday to correct the court date.  You've already waited this long.  The automated service is only going to mention one citation

  3. Since your court date is tomorrow, you have had time to straighten this out.  You would have had to provided the incorrect address, either directly or from your drivers license at the time of the incident.  Procrastination may cost you an additional fine.

  4. If you provided the correct address to the officer, hopefully it was on your driver's license, the ticket is invalid. However, if your driver's license is not up to date and has your old address, you are responsible for the ticket and the court date.

    Get your to court on the first day that it is open.
