Question:

How to create a job search engine?

I'm trying to create a small job site, and would like to feature a search engine similar to what monster.com has. Where do I start? Resources? I need something more than a basic search. For instance, I would like users to be able to search for advertising jobs in Miami, Florida, that were posted within the past 2 weeks.

  1. Hi,

There are many ways to market a small business on the web.  You can buy banner ads, text links, or use PPC.  However, the best way is to get listed in a bunch of portals. Portals and directories are like phone books, and they often provide a lot of traffic because they tend to rank high on Google.

This portal is giving away a free business card holder for lising your business (I got mine a few days ago in the mail).  If you want to know about some other portals, just let me know.

  2. Aww you woke up too late buddy. It will be very difficult for you open such a site coz theres a big competition in that field. Sites like monster have spent millions to advertise and publicize. If you are ready to spend so much you should go for it. Otherwise i would suggest you to try some other innovative idea as you will fall in loss if you dont get any visitors.

If its a local site it would be great you can try it.

You can find search engine code (php asp etc) and make it work with your job database or try to search a readymade job database script or hire a webmaster :)

  3. I would focus your interest in another direction. Unless you have a great deal of venture capital money this will be a very difficult venture to tackle. Try finding a niche site to market first and see how that goes.
