  1. If you have space left on your drive without any partition, you can use windows disk management.

Right click My Computer, select Manage.

    Select Disk management.

Right click the unpartitioned space, and select format.

Or, you can delete partitions (you will lose all files within) and then reformat them.

If you need to create partition but everything is formatted, you have to use a 3rd party software like Partition Magic to use the free space you have on your partition. This is the easiest way.

  2. there is the safe way and there is the quick way.  The safe way is to back up your hard drive and typically with each hard drive there is a partition program.  Boot from that disk and change your allocations.  Reinstall the operating system and applications.  A ton of time but safe.

The quick way is to get a program like partition magic or it's competitors.  This program will makes those changes on the fly.  The risk is you can lose al your files if the program dies or you mess up.

You may find that it is easier to install a complete second PHYSICAL drive.  Not only do you save a TON of work and risk, you increase your capacity.  I STRONGLY suggest this option.

  3. You can download a free utility called Easeus Partition Manager Home Edition which is free for personal use - go to : http://www.easeus.com/download.htm

I downloaded this a week ago and it was very easy to use and if I can do it, anyone can!

    Good luck

  4. I use gParted a free Linux utility cd that you boot to then it allows you to resize, create, or delete partitions on the fly with no data loss.
