  1. Make sure you have all the proven Montessori tools and exercises available for the children to have fun and to explore.  More importantly, have some qualified teachers or caregivers to teach Montessori.

  2. Bright colors.. have primary colors everywhere

Have posters with basic information numbers, colors, shapes,  and alphabet banner with letters and animals

also as kids do art project those make really good decorations

You dont want kids to be overstimulated by having too much but you want it to be a bright fun room that activates their minds

  3. The environment should reflect the children in our classroom.  Children love to play with adult items so in a pretend area I would have some real items and some play items.  I would have some real dishes and clothing for pretend.  What are your children interested in.  My children are really into animals right now so we have a veterinarian office in the classroom.  We took a trip to a local veterinarian and the children helped me think of things to put in our pretend office and off they went.  I also have puzzles with animals, books, art supplies etc. based on what they are interested in.  I think you need to have an uncluttered environment with all materials labeled so they have a space.  You need plenty of room for children to move and explore.  I would decorate the room in a way that is culturally meaningful to the children in the classroom.  For instance I am from southern Ohio and one of my children's father is a blue grass banjo player.  I have a pictures of banjos on the wall and he loves to talk about his dad playing music.  This can work for anything.  I also have books on the shelves that children have made and picture albums with words to describe pictures so children can "read" them.
