  1. I don't know much about roses....

    But...

It should be the same thing as with all genetics, find a dark colored rose or black rose [although I've never seen an alive one that was black]. If you can find another rose with characteristics like what you're wanting, or with red edges at least, cross them. So pretty much, anytime you want something unique, you have to find things closest to what you're looking, put them together, and keep taking the results and mix them with others close to what you want until you get the desired results.

EDIT: I didn't even think of the dye thing xD

That sounds easier....but the only thing I've ever tried the dye on was white daisies....

  2. There is no recipe for it as most rose hybridists have to work very hard to get certain colours and effects. You will just have to try crossing those you think will give those attributes to the final outcome. This could take years, or you could hit it fairly early on.

  3. okay, go to the store and buy red roses, then cut the bottom of the stem in half about and inch (right down the middle...like you're giving the flower a pair of legs) and let the rose sit in black ink for a while.  I don't know how long exacly, I think it would depend on the ink and how thick it is etc etc..

Then when the flower takes up the water, it will also absorb this in and turn the rose black...but don't keep it in there for long cause then your entire rose will be black!!

This is how alot of florists create orange, green, purple, even pink, red and yellow flowers when certain one's are out of season.  If you want you can even start out wiht a white rose and have a black rose with white tips..have fun.

  4. I hope you are not in any rush, you'll have to make one. Either start with something like "Black Magic" (first link below) and try for darker offspring or a lighter russet like "Julia's rose" and try progressive darker flowers. The third link below is the general link for the site with most rose varieties listed. This is, for most of the involved people, a life long endeavor. The first link is general rose breeding info. This is a good time of year to hunt around and look for suitable varieties to work with but remember that as a blossom ages it will frequently darken. Right now the prices are great. The black rose has been a goal for many a grower. It is difficult to achieve in the flower world, as, of course, a true blue. Good luck.

Baccara is very dark red with black, pic on 4th link

  5. You could probably dye the rose black and dip the edges in some glossy red paint.
