of metal chunk.

I think the metal chunk is made of regular cast iron.

the bolt is metric 6mm thick and about 50mm long.

is there some kind of machine that i can buy at local hardware

store that can do such job?

  1. Most bolts are made out of carbon steel, not cast iron.  cast iron is very brittle and would be hard to thread, but no impossible.  It also rusts easily.  You would be better off buying a bolt that is already made--if your metal piece isn't the correct diameter then the threads won't turn out well.  You can look on www.mcmaster.com  they sell every type of bolt you could ever want.

  2. Yes, you need a Die, as in a Tap and Die Set, available at most hardware stores..

  3. You need a die.  Be sure the stock is the correct diameter, then look near the drill bits and taps in your hardware store for dies.  You will probably need a handle to turn it as well.  The store may be able to thread it for you for a small charge.  Good luck.
