Does anyone of you ever crop tulip's seeds? How do they look like by size, colors and how big is the seed bud? Last year I bought some tulips and it flowered and yielded some seed buds. But unfortunately they were all savaged by the aphides that they all withered without any seeds inside the buds. Just wonder any experienced gardener ever collects such kind of seed and how to plant them and when is the best season to plant them ( the real seeds not bulbs) in what kind of soil would be the best to them

  1. theres a great website with many seeds for sale like creeping thyme, red poppy, black eyed susan seeds and many more at www.seedneeds.com

  2. Tulip seeds are overrated unless you plan on doing your own breeding. When you plant the seed, you will lose the benefit of having genetically identical plants as with bulbs. The seed will yield unknown genetic characteristics, which again, has its uses, but is normally not desirable and quite difficult. If you must, plant the seed in well drained pH 6.5 soil in the spring. A normal potting soil will suffice. Go organic. No Miracle Gro!
