  1. Is you doctor you primary care physician?  If so, the first thing I would recommend is seeing a therapist.  Anxiety may be the symptom of something underneath that may actually be easier to treat.

St. Johns Wort can be a bood stabilizer and can help with anxiety if you give it a chance.  Also, make sure you're doing the right lifestyle things - good exercise each day, healthy diet, etc.  Rhythm therapy could be a big help, and might be worth looking into.

  3. The problem with this is if you cut it out too fast you can find yourself having problems with seizures that is usually the worst effect of not tapering off.  Addiction to this is not very bad because it is very easy to get off of.  But you want to at first start taking .5mg less for about a week to be safe and then every week drop it another .5mg and you will have no problems.  You also don't have with drawls or something if you do it this way.  I can understand your fear because it seems to have been your safety harness for a very long time.  I find starting a group for people with panic attacks and anxiety and meeting once or twice a week helps a lot for some people.  Also I'm a hypnotherapist and and hypnotherapy works very well for panic attacks and anxiety maybe finding a good one can help you.

  4. There is a bach flower medicine''' walnut''' which is a remedy for addiction to a medicine. Tbe available in homoeopathy medicine ake the minimum   dose of one or two  pill  of the medicine.

as per your doc's advice take one or 1.5 tabs daily .. It would have been better if he had cut the dose to  2 per day then 1 per day --in a period of 40 or 60 days. He could then have asked you to cut it to half a tablet then half a tablet once in 2 days and then 1/4  every day then 1/4 every 2 days then every 3 days .'Walnut' will  be available in homoeopathic medicine shops
