  2. Hi -  I am into hospitality training so i will tell you

its easy to decorate a dining table in indian style but whats important is how tomake it look good, take these steps.

    - the table cloth must have an ethnic look - ex.rajastahani, gujrati or even south indian

    - must have a few small bowls with diff chutneys, pickles and even some assorted dry powders and chillies

    - for each cover (lingo in hospitality for person),keep one fork on left, spoon on right and a small spoon (for dessert) in front. Keep it in a manner that a dinner plate can fit between all the cutlery. Then place a water goblet on right in front of the dinner spoon. If possible keep a traditional plate (made of wood or chinaclay) and glass (made of copper or hand made glasswareare also available)

    - keep a side plate for bread/roti/chapati, and aplace and orange or yellow napkin in the shape of triangle, on it. The napkin can also be made into a triangle and rolled and then can beput in the glass.

    - if u need table mat ensure its made of jute or thin banboo or even wooden mats are awailable

    - to decorate if further you can have a small urli and fill it with water, flower petals and floating candles in it and keep the chutney bowls around it. OR if u dont put candles then cover the urli with glass and put the bowls on it.

    Anything else then mail me.

  3. my friend always decorate with pillows as chairs, clean floor for table. and have it outside.

  4. Decoration of your dining table depends on what type of food you are serving. I can give you a few general suggestions.

Use traditional utensils made of brass or silver. If you insist on using China use them with traditional designs on them. Also use cane table mats.

Use of cutlery is optional. If you use them try silver ones with ornamentation on them.

Arrange small serving bowls  around the plate. In Indian custom all the foods are served in those bowls and arranged according to the order of their nature.

In small silver bowls put water, float flower petals and one small scented floating candle.

in a large heavy silver bowl arrange colorful tropical fruits like mango, watermelon, grapes, litchi, jamun etc. beautifully. You can even make a fruit salad with them.

Lastly serve accompaniments like pickle, sauce etc. in small decorated bowls and arrange them beautifully on the table.

To add final touch you can put a few traditional Indian dolls to the setting.

Hope you get an overall idea. All the best for your effort.

I think you can try this style-

Put a cotton cover on the table with Indian style painings. The Radha-Krishna print is easily available in the market.

Use a cane-made bowl to put chapaties or paranthas. You can find it from Handicraft fairs.

Refrain from using anything over-exotic as Indians are very simple with food and dining.

In place of glasses, you can use earthen "kullhars" (small pots).

In place of regular plates, you can use the banana leaves for a South-Indian look OR peepal leaves(pinned together) for a North-Indian look.

    Hope it helped.
