Question:

How to darken the window of my room?

I live in an apartment that has mini-blinds on the windows and unfortunately I am not allowed to install any type of window treatment or curtain rod.

I'm trying to find a way to darken the room for my baby b/c a lot of light comes through the blinds even when closed. Is there a CHEAP, EASY & temporary way to do this? What kind of material blocks out the light the best? It would have to be something I could just put up using thumbtacks or something. I tried towels but light still comes through.

I was thinking of just using garbage bags but that seemed so ghetto.

Thanks.

  1. Try lining the curtains first. And/ or get the mirror reflective stuff you buy for cars windows. This will help. If you don't look out the window put a poster over it. Maybe a sea scape would be nice.

  2. If allowed the best you can use is aluminum foil. Tack in front of or behind blinds, or you can form the aluminum on the window frame and zero light will come in...

  3. I bought a curtian rod that expands so that it can be braced on each side of the window. It's not actually attached in any way, but it stays up there pretty good. I bought it at Wal-Mart so they are pretty easy to find.

  4. dont use garbage bags use a blanket

  5. I Had The Same Problem, With Light Being Way Too Bright In My Room, So I Looked Up Tips On The Net Just To Find A Inexpensive Way To Solve My Problem, One Tip I Got Was To Size The Window Then Go Find A Large Carboard Box Cut it Up The Size Of The Window. Then Get Wall Paper Or Gift Wrap And Wrap The Card Board Up With It. This Is So It Doesn't Look Like its Just An Old Card Board Thingy On A Window.  Well It Worked For Me And I Still Use This Method If It's Too Bright On Some Days And Keeps Out Harmful UV Rays.

  6. put a blanket over it

  7. check at Home Depot or Lowes. My friends in AZ had a plastic type film they put over their bedroom window and it was transparent like, but it did not let the sun in. Sorry I can't remember what it is called. They will know in the store. Also a place that sells blinds will have this to I think.

  8. buy a bunch of black construction paper from the dollerstore and tape it up! lol i did that to my window and not much light comes through it anymore!

  9. a thick blanket

what about a blackout sheet - Its just dense cloth used in darkrooms, for photography

  10. i do that sometimes 2. all you do is gett a slightly heavy blanket and pin it up around your window and thats it.

  11. Whatever you do please do not use something black. This will only suck more heat into the room and possibly break the window. I got a piece of white poster board and cut it out to fit the window hole then I used packing tape to tape it up. This deflects heat as well as blocks the light. It is very cost effective and it a lot less ugly or noticeable than aluminum foil. The landlord will just think it is blinds or a curtain.

  12. a very white & light sheet
