How to deaden typewriter noise?

I have a Sears Electronic Communicator 2 electric typewriter, and I wondered if anyone had tips on how to deaden the noise. I wish to use it late at night, but the other people living in my house are not pleased with the loud tapping noises that the typewriter creates. Any tips?

  1. In this day and age, I would think you would have switched to using your PC and a word processing program.  That would definitely be quieter than a typewriter.

  2. Put some foam undernealth it to absorb the noise.  You can buy like 5 or 6 foam mousepads at a dollar store or whatever and put those underneath to insulate and deaden the noise and will prevent it from sliding.  You sure it's that and not the sound of your fingernails clicking on the keys?  A little WD 40 wouldn't hurt either.
