Question:

How to deal between getting what you want vs. being realistic?

Hi. I am having a lot of difficulty dealing with this.

On one side there is my wants and dreams, what I like etc... on the other side is reality.

I want to enjoy life and do the stuff I want to, but at the same time I do not want to be someone spoiled who only is happy by getting what they want. At the same time I also don't want to ignore my wants, I don't want to be a comformist.

I guess my question is how to find a balance between getting what you want but being realistic too?

I'm not sure if you get my question. I am just very confused. Like for example I want to listen to certain type of music, have a certain type of job, buy the cars and stuff that I like, but at the same time... I'm not rich, so I don't want to ruin my future by just living the present. But I do want to enjoy the present.

I am so confused! please help me. Thanks!

  1. Use your dreams to propel you forward. Not hold you back.

For instance, if you want to drive a nice car, then work hard for it. Save for it. Dream about it, then do it.

But if you want to "live rich" and do it by charging everything and racking up debt, you're actually holding yourself back.

As H.D. Thoreau said: "live the life you have imagined"

  2. You are on the right track in realizing that life is not about immediate gratification. As long as you never lose sight of those goals, you CAN achieve them. "Being rich" is so vague anyway. Plan out the steps you need to do to get where you want to be and you will find yourself there eventually.
