How to deal with a suicidal person?

Well, okay. I really hate the fact that I have to post this here. But, I really don't know what else to do. My boyfriend is insanely suicidal. And I don't know what to do! I've tried helping him but he seems to get pissed. I've even tried pushing the fact that he needs help. But he just says no! He tells me he just wants me to listen. But, most of the time he never even has anything to say! So what do I talk to him about to help him feel better?

I have delt with the SAME exact thing.

Make sure to point out all the good things he does. Like if he plays an instrument, etc.

ALWAYS give positive reinforcement.

LISTEN to what he has to say when he rarely has something to say.

If he calls himself dumb or any NEGATIVE attitude comes out of his mouth ALWAYS say something Positive back. Or make him say something positive.

Ex:

He says: I hate myself & I want to die

You say: That's a dumb thing to say. Say something nice about yourself now (be serious)

And if he looks at you strangely(which he will) Smile at him and make it into a joke... Its positive reinforcement. The best you can do is CONSTANTLY  give positive reinforcement. Thats the most important thing.

I have a friend just like that and I can't seem to help him either. The best thing to do is try to get him to talk to a doctor, parent , priest someone who he trusts.

first you cant deal with another persons problems if they wont deal with it.

i went through this once too with a girl that said she would commit suicide if i wouldnt be her boy friend, i never even kissed her.  I told her i would be her friend and that was all, and when she wouldnt get help, i said then i cant help you and avoided her, she is doing fine now liviing for Jesus, but at that time she was the head of a satanic group and quit thinking i would be her boy friend if she did.

he is not your boy friend, dont decieve yourself, if he puts thoughts of sucide up in his life, he doesnt have a life, and you become an enabler trying to fix what he wont fix.  

He is destroying your life and without real help, and Jesus is the biggest help, and professional help, that he is willing to get, you going along with his rejection of getting help, is pushing him to suicide.

  If he doesnt have a life with God and  you...why do you try and fool yourself.

This is what helped me most=I happen to be Jewish and one of many that believes that Jesus is the Messiah.

When you state Jews dont believe Jesus is the Messiah, is a false statement.

i know that u are worried and i understand my brothers friend killed himself last year.. sadly.. you need to get help for him. even if it means it may be the end of your relationship. you'd do that if you really love him.. no matter what.if he doesnt tell u things things build up in his mind- this is more suicidle.talk about his future. but make sure u are ok then deal with him. protect yourself .. then protect him.

if you feel he is a danger to himself you need to get him help.  He may hate you for a while but he'll thank you in the end.  Call a hotline (in the phone book) or call the police.  Get him help please!

What's more valuable: His trust that you'll stay silent, or his life?

Talk to somebody, get him help and push him into it. When it comes down to it, he's going to do what he wants to do but you can't live with this either. It will be hard but in the end he'll realize that the only reason you're doing what you're doing is because you love him and care for him.
