How to deal with tail-gaters when driving, and difference day or night time?

What's the best way to deal with being followed too close when I am on the slow lane already. Can I flash emergency lights, or slow down to coast to tell others to change lane, or wave my hands, or put a sign in back window: please change lane if you want to go faster?

  1. you need to drive your car and not worry about the one behind you.

  2. Go really slow slow to make them mad so they will go around you. Tap on your brakes.

  3. This is difficult, usually the person will go around, but if you hit your break lights or something this could cause an accident. I like your idea of emergency lights.  If this does not work, i would use my blinker to pull off the road and let them pass.

  4. Well if you're already in the "slow" lane, I would just keep going as you're going, and ignore them. But if you're in the "fast" lane, just move over and let them pass.

  5. slowing down is best: I have also seen a bumper sticker that reads: "The closer you get, the slower I go"

  6. The correct way is to slow down gently, that will force the car behind you to slow down to( witch mean he will either pass or the danger is less because the speed is lower).Just remember no aggressive behaviour , it mite feel good but are never good to anybody

  7. I'd say just stick to the speed limit, don't be pushed into speeding as it'd be just your luck there'll be a speed camera along the road and *you'll* get snapped, speeding ticket, points on license, etc etc.

If they are that desperate to be at their destination faster they should have left earlier!!

  8. just keep driving your normal speed they will pass you if not s***w them

  9. .

Increase YOUR following distance from the vehicle in front so that you do not have to brake so hard in an emergency - that way the car behind has more time to react and less chance of hitting you.

Alternatively, move over to let them pass...

Do not react any other way.

    .

  10. Best way to deal with them is to take your foot off the gas, and let your car coast down to slow speeds.

They can either go around you, or whatever. Hopefully there's a passing area.

There's NOTHING you can do to change the mind of idiotic people like this, except to do something that will make them go around you, like slowing way down gradually.

Let them honk! If they don't like it, they can go around you. Just smile and wave to them.

No point in gesturing, they're idiots anyway. Or, drive until you see a police car, and stop, and point at the tailgater and say you're being stalked. <big grin> THAT'LL teach them to tail gate! When they take off in a hurry, the police might give chase. LOL.

Good luck, plenty of idiots on the road, just be sensible dealing with them

  11. GO THE SPEED LIMIT.

Check your speedometer, make sure you are in fact going the speed limit.  Realize that a lot of times tailgater's don't do it on purpose, just like sometimes you might not be going exactly the speed limit.  No big deal.

DO NOT slam on the brakes.  This actually is grounds for road rage, and the person behind you could report you for this.  Should you actually be unlucky enough to cause an accident, some states will actually find both drivers at equal fault.

  12. I break abruptly and hope they hit me I need some money. Seriously I think people do it just to tick you off.

  13. I slow down and let them pass and if they don't pass, I will pull over and stop and if they follow me, I will look for a police man. Years ago, I used to slam on the brakes hoping they would hit me, but I am older and wiser now.
