  1. Autistic kids need good firm schedules - they need to know when things are going to happen. You need to get the child on a good schedule and be firm about keeping it up. The less intrusive schedule changes for these children the better.

Consistency in discipline ( apropriate for their ages) is important too. That they receive the same discipline for an infraction is very important.

Any medications should be given at the same time every day to be most effective.

www.autismspeaks.org is a good site for more information.

  2. Try getting your child a phyciatrist. With Autism, there are a lot of problems going on that you need someone to talk to about with. Sometimes they may feel depressed or upset just because, and  they may not feel quite as comfortable sharing these feelings with mom as they would a counselor.

  3. I have a daughter, she'll be 2 this month and we think she may be autistic. I have her on a glueten free and a casein free diet and also i am using this cookbook that is also for ADHD children too. I really believe that what you put into your body, is what you get out of it. Food is just fuel for your body. Ever since i did this diet with my daughter, i have seen such a change. I also have a teacher that comes out twice a week and i take her to a regular play group which she loves, but hates carpet time, of course. I agree with the recent responder about a schedule. That just goes for all kids. I really hope the best for you and your 5yr old and i hope i helped! God Bless and just enjoy him/her as much as you can! They have been placed in your life for a reason.
