Question:

How to decide on Good School?

We have decided to move for a better school for our Special Ed child. We have reviewed the school data in various websites and the apartment availability. We now have two options --

1) A very good school (ranked 9 out of 10) in an Average School district (6 out of 10)

2) An average school (7 out of 10) in a Very Good School District (9 out of 10). In case 2, the district is very renowned (Newton, MA) but the school we are getting as per apartment availability is the lowest ranked in that district.

Which is a better option ?

  1. What goes on in the classroom is what counts. A better school means that the classroom and instruction is better./

You should also make sure about the rating system that is used. You can find ratings of schools in the sites below. Also check on the nature of Special Education in each school. The ratings may not give much attention to Special Ed./

Another suggestion is that you visit the school and see for yourself. Contact if possible parents of special ed children in each school.
