Question:

How to decorate a restaurant reception!?

So, we are having dinner and cake at a restaurant for our reception. It will be a hibachi grill so the middle of the tables have grills in them... so I really just don't know how to decorate the room since we can't have centerpieces! I wasn't really going to decorate it besides having menu and favor boxes at each place setting and a table with the cake.. but now it is making me sad bc I feel like we won't be making the space "ours."

Here is a link to the restaurant if you want to see pics of what the tables will look like:

Any ideas or links really appreciated! (our theme is cherry blossom using pink, green, and brown.)

  1. THE RESTUARANT IS BEAUTIFUL. HAVING MENU CARDS AND FAVORS ON EACH PLACE SETTING IS FINE. GET SOME ELEGANT CHINA TO BRING MORE PERSONALITY. YOU CAN ADD A GOBO ON ONE OF THOSE BARE WALLS AND HAVE CAKE TABLE IN FRONT OF IT. LET YOUR CAKE BE TALL AND UNIQUE AS A FOCAL POINT AND USE CANDLES AROUND IT. YOU COULD USE CHOPSTICKS IN PLACE OF ATUALLY SILVERWARE.THE PLACE ITSELF WILL BE A WOW FACTOR BECAUSE EACH GUEST GET TO WITNESS THERE MEAL BEING PREPARED IN FRONT OF THEM WHICH IS GREAT ENTERTAINING.  HAVE A IPOD OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS PLAYING AND HAVE A FIRST DANCE. I THINK YOU WILL HAVE AN AFFORABLE YET ELEGANT RECEPTION THAT YOUR GUEST WILL REMEMBER FOR YEARS TO COME

  2. Why don't you line the center of the tables with tea lights or votives?

Candles will make it quite romantic.

  3. I love hibachi grill!  I'm so jealous!  What a wonderful idea!

Unfortunately, there is not much room for decorations, and often not much room for anything besides the plates and glasses being used for dinner.

I think the best way to decorate would be with a small favor on each plate.  Origami, something in your colors, fancy chopstick set with holder, etc.

You could also speak to the restaurant.  I'm sure they have had this concern before and may have some wonderful ideas.

    Good luck!

  4. Make custom chopstick wrappers with cherry-blossom paper. All it requires is cutting and folding. Washi paper would be best, its whats usually used for a nice wrapper. If you want to know about the size and folding, add details.

Or, if the restaurant doesnt use the disposable type, you could make chopstick rests from washi paper.

  5. My first suggestion is to check with the restaurant. They usually have great suggestions themselves since they always service events there.

As the hot grills will be used, you can't really surround the grill with much or it'll be in the way or even get dirty very quickly. So decorate the place settings with napkins, napkins rings, ribbons, one cherry blossom wrapped around the napkins...

Or if there's room... one glass next to each guest with a flower or tea light (or even alternate between the two), and wrap with ribbon and turn them into place settings as well.

You can also make origami butterflies and place on each person's place with their name card and thank you note.

Or just use your favors as decoration and wrap them in tulle and place them on the side of the plates so there's room to use the grill.

    All the best!!

  6. A few ideas that might be of interest:

~ small bud vases (Crate & Barrel) with individual bright-colored flowers & ribbons tied around the neck of the vase. Inexpensive & beautiful!

~ decorate the backs of chairs w/ribbon or sashes that you would wrap once around the width of the chair back and tie in the back with a bow or love knot.

~ give each of your hibachi chefs a ribbon(s) with your wedding color(s) & ask them to tie it around their hat(s).

I love hibachis!  Hope you have a wonderful wedding dinner!
