Question:

How to decorate/design a long exposed brick wall?

My husband has fallen in love with exposed brick walls and he wants to create that look on a wall of our basment. Here's the problem. Our wall is 35' long and 8' high - that would be a lot of brick. And we can't put much furniture on the wall without interfering with the pool table and walkway to the bathroom. We're trying to come up with a design using brick that won't overwhelm the room. Should we divide the walls into vertical sections with columns? If so, should we then put brick in every section, alternating sections, or do brick on the right half sections and drywall on the others? Would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

  1. You could do brick about chair rail heigth from the floor ( say 30") then a rough plastered faux finish from there to the ceiling.

  2. I personally think that you should only accent the wall in brick, a whole wall of brick could be overpowering and that could potentially turn house hunters away. I think the best solution would to make faux columns. It might bring a beautiful architectural detail to your home. Which most home buyers are looking for.

  3. why dont you do exposed brick where the pool table is for a fun yet classy atmosphere and put dry wall with columns to separate the space and polish it off. Exposed brick... thats alot of bricks. I have solved your problem as far as that.. * i think* At Lowes, there are brick wall paper. It depends on if you want slated bricks like in the 50's or if you want the regular bricks. I think the slated bricks are just gorgeous. check out this website http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...
