How to decrease game graphics?

the reason i want to do this is because my games Sims 2 and RCT3 choppy freeze so yeah... but how do i do it!???

  1. In any game, there is an options menu that you can change graphics settings on. Specifically, for the Sims 2, there is an Icon on the lower left panel of the screen that looks like two cogs, one bigger than the other. Click it and a new set of icons will appear and specifically, one will look like a monitor. If you click that, you will be shown quite a few different options. Ideally, you will want to lower your resolution, ensure that 'use square pixels' is on, that the 'smooth edges' bar will be set at none. Continue to tweak settings as you see fit, but note that the biggest changes will be noticed if you reduce resolution, change your colour depth to 16-bit, set anti-aliasing to off at all times and set textures to medium, shadows to off.

    Those are some general rules of thumb I apply to games if I find they lag slightly and they usually work. (Anti-aliasing is the smoothing of straight lines, so graphics look more curvy and realistic)
