If you just want to hide them from your parents, put them in the trash and empty it.  That puts things out of reach of 99.99% of the population.

If you are trying to hide something from the FBI, take the disk out of the computer and hit it with a heavy hammer.

Both shouldn't be on your hard drive unless you log your chats.  Email is stored at the website.  Chats usually have an option about logging them or not.. look for it.

There are programs that will clean out temporary and unnecessary files.  Many are freeware.  Sometimes they clean out too much.  I like CCleaner myself.  There are also programs that will clean off records of deleted files from the hard drive for the really worried.  CCleaner is just a general cleaner, it doesn't do this level of erasing.  I'm giving you a website listing some to try... though I haven't tried them.
