If it's a minidv camcorder you can either rewind and tape over, download to your computer via a firewire conection and edit it there.

It's it's a minidvd camcorder then once it's recorded it's there for good, unless you have used a dvd-rw (recordable). You would finalize the dvd and convert the files and then edit.
