  1. I used an example framework from the PLA and then checked it against the National Standards (OFSTED) to make sure everything was covered from those!

Also look at frameworks such as the Every Child Matters Framework and your Code of Practise.

IF you have a EY Support Advisor ask them for examples to help you make a template for your policy, you canchoose which way suits you best! We found that setting it out as:

    Eg:

    Staff

1.1 All staff will be subject to a CRB check stating they are fit persons.

1.2 All references will be checked before staff contracts are signed...

    etc.

We found short and simple sentences worked best as theirs so many policies I think parents/carers get bored reading them!!!

  2. Discuss each policy you have regarding safe issues.

    1. Back to sleep, tummy to play for infants, for example.

Any issues that are state laws and issues that you feel are important to you should be included.  If I question my licensing counselor about an issue, she always asks... "What is in your Policy Statement?"  I have a parent handbook which outlines all my policies and there is a section on child protection, like we report suspected child abuse or neglect.  There is a policy on most every aspect that I feel is necessary to the children in my care.  You just have to decide those issues and discuss them in your booklet.  This year, I included a cover sheet with the eight most important issues I have problems with the parents about and had them initial the rule so I know we agree upon those issues if I am to provide care for their child.

  3. make sure the children will be safe-cant escape

make sure staff are crb checked and are aloud to work with children-have no criminal records

make sure toys are not broken

same goes for puzzles-and pens, pencils etc

non toxic paints and colouring pens/pencils

hope this is useful-this is just some health and safety - which would lead to child protection

    Shell xx

  4. Try this web site they have nearly every policy you can imagine

    www.SchoolPolicy.co.uk

  5. There really is no need to reinvent the wheel - contact your Local Authority for a generic policy which you can then personalise.

The important thing is that all the staff should understand and implement the policy.
