  1. Are you diluting the tea tree oil with almond oil to lessen the strong tea tree smell???  It is STRONG, but it's also most effective when used at full strength.

My advice would be to use the tea tree oil at night before bed, then wash your face in the morning to get rid of the tea tree smell.  If you just can't stand it though (and I agree, that smell will run you right out of the bathroom) you could start adding a few almond oil drops to your bottle of tea tree at a time until you can tell that the strong tea tree smell is lessened.

As for the 2nd part of your question, in Aromatherapy lavender and peppermint oils achieve opposite results:

    * Lavender = calming, soothing, best used to relax before bed

    * Peppermint = energizing, best used when you wish to be wide awake and remain alert

So, do you have more trouble winding down to fall asleep or waking up alert and refreshed?  That might help you determine which oil you need the most.

    :-)

  2. i didn't dilute it when i used it. i just applied it to my face, it burns for ten minutes but then its fine once it soaks in. lol.

i'd get lavender if you're planning to use it on your skin, it's more sensitive.

  3. With mine I just add 3 drops to some cheap lotion and apply it

Peppermint; it's so nice and refreshing in the mornings :)
