Question:

How to direct a light to point to a specific area?

I am building custom lighting for my fish tank. I have the structure planned out except for how to direct the light down to the tank.

What sort of enclosure for the light could be used that will not rust, and will look good hanging over my tank. I may have to hide the light enclosure if it is unsightly, and too, I want to do this as inexpensively as possible.

My overall budget is $60. I have the wood that I got free off of CL, and the light kits I got at a thrift store for about $2 a piece. I am doing 4 lights over a 55 gallon tank. Any feed back would be great.

  1. check out halogen lamps, mobile (desk) or recessed ones, like in a home improvement store.

Choose one with a transformer for low voltage(6V or 12V) to avoid getting hurt (or killed) by contact with water.

The light bulbs that come with reflector reflect the light, not the heat.

I'm thinking of a light bulb sitting in a ball, which you easily can direct.

  2. try going to a pet store where they have fish tanks and look what they have done, it might give you a better idea on how to diy.
