Question:

How to disinfect toys that are contaminated with bat f***s?

We were given a lot of larger toys for my daughter. We put them in the attic and at the time didn't realize we had bats up there. Well now the toys are covered with bat f***s. We were going to just throw the toys out but they are so nice and because of the economy we don't have the money to replace them. How could we disinfect the toys so that they are truly safe for our 14 month old. I was thinking bleach and a hot water spray. And then let them air dry out side. Any thoughts.

  1. I'd make sure you have a good ratio of bleach to water, let them air dry in the sunshine. Bat guano can be toxic and can also harbor disease.

Diseases found in  guano are respiratory in nature and are an airborne pathogen. PLEASE wear a HEPA mask when you get them down, and if possible wet the area down before you pull them down.

It's when there is dry dust kicked up that it's the most serious.

  2. I think you are right about bleach and water, but I would soak them if possible to be on the safe side.
