  1. mow lawns or something

  2. One woman I used to work with started up a home cleaning business when she moved to a new city. She put together some prices and flyers, then went door-to-door introducing herself. I think she charges $40 per hour (or per house, I'm not sure) and got three sign-ups on her first afternoon of door-knocking.

  3. There are so many people around the world that do side jobs for a living.  What types of things do you want to do?  What do you like?

Most people I know start up small businesses on the side of their current career or school.  Depending on what industry you go into would determine on what it would be that you do to make your money. There's a lot of industries and a lot of different things you do.

What's a 1099?  This is a tax paper basically.  A company that you collaborate sends you a 1099 based on the earnings that you made.  Your in charge of your own taxes, same with any other business.  Majority of the companies that have home based business opportunities, 1099 their Independent Representatives or Independent Contractors.  The income opportunity for IR's, or IC's are the same as traditional business owners, they just don't have the over head expenses and don't have to hire an accountant to do their taxes, this is all part of the services that the primary company has to do for Independent business owners through their company (IR's and IC's) Insurance, as with any business owner, you'll have to go and get it on your own.  Which is pretty simple to do.  Plenty of brokers you can contact to get insurance health and dental as well as auto etc.  If a company claims they offer health and dental or any other type of insurance to their IR's or IC's, you will have to pay for it the same way you would being a sole proprioter.  This isn't given for free, it's either taken out of your commissions or you have to hand them money.  And those types of benefits through different companies you have to reach a curtain positition in ownership ranks (thinking like inc 500, but smaller scale)  Anyhow, many people don't realize if they just go out and purchase their own insurance, which would be the same thing as waiting to you hit the position in the company to obtain it, which in most cases takes quite a few years.  So they go without thinking it's just around the corner.  When they could of been covered all along.

Here's an article that I recommend you reading on home based businesses.  This is what it sounds like when you mentioned a 1099 of what your about to venture in.  You need to have a full understanding of what is involved.
