I was wondering if anybody can provide details on how to properly execute a 'Jump Float Serve' serve in volleyball. I have read that it is highly effective, but have yet to find much tutorials or details pertaining to how it is performed.

Any insight, and details instructions would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I am a right handed player if that helps.

  1. You need to make sure you're far enough back so that you don't cross the service line. You're allowed to cross after you've hit the ball. You start out with holding the ball in 2 hands straight out in front of you infront of your stomach. Then you take 2 short to medium length steps and then throw the ball far enough in front of you so that when you hit it it's not too far infront or behind you. You don't spin the ball when you throw it up either. The ball needs to be about 1 1/2 -2 feet in the air. Not as high up as you can throw it.(that would be for the jump serve that you hold the ball with one hand). Usually you need lots of practice for this serve to even get it over the net. And even when you get it over the net, it isn't very effective unless you've practiced a lot and became good at it.

  2. I have been playin volleyball since I have been about 7, and I have never heard of a 'Jump Float Serve'. I have heard of a 'Jump Serve', and what that is, is when you throw the ball up pretty high and you take a running start and jump up when you hit it. Kind of like a spike, but only serving. It takes a lot of practice to master but if you do it enough you can get it. And not a lot of people can return it either because it is a hard serve.

  3. Coordination. Toss as in a regular jump serve and take your jump as it is decending. The only difference with this one is that you will hit it fat as to float it with spin short in your opponents court. It can be very tricky especially if you disguise it as if you were bombing it. They won't expect it.

  4. I know what you mean. Jump float serve is a baby jump plus a typical float serve. Please see the answer to "how to do a floater serve" here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... to find out basic floater skills. Then add a baby jump to put on a little more power. If you are righty, toss the ball up not very high in front of you, move you left leg first and then right (approaching the ball), then together and bend, jump and apply floater serve on the ball.

  5. You have to make sure the hole...(were you put air into the ball) is facing foward...this makes the serve go back and forth in the air so your opponets dont know where exactly the ball is going.

  6. before doing this jump float serve, you have to be good in aim the ball when you throw the ball up and you have to meet the ball correctly,if you dont meet the ball correctly ,it will make you do error.
