  1. You know those little scrunchi clips, they have them in a variety of sizes and colors....you can do different styles with those...the banks pulled back on the top of the head...twist once or twice and clip using some hair that you did not twist towards the back.  Pussh the twist foward for a little puff in the front.  Use one on each side to pull hair back similar to as you would with a barrett.

French braids are adorable and not difficult to learn how to do if you aren't doing those in her hair.  Both one down the center of the head starting from the top bang area or further back and with parting the hair in the middle and dooing one one each side inplace of reg pigtails.

with the french braid, you can wrap the bottom in a bun or tuck up and under, then hold with a reg scrunchi to make it shorter in the back.

Those same scrunchi clips in a larger size for more hair make great holders for an upsweep style...pull hair back as if putting in a pony tail at the base of her neck, twist while bringing the entire ponytail up to the top of her head, tuck the end of it under the twist down ward and clip.

Remember the topsy tails?  you do a pony tail and then use that stick with the eye loop to pull the hair through just above the pony tail and out through the ponytail band?  Always cute on kids.  I think they still sell them, but you can twist the hair after in a pony tail and use your fingers to push it through.

Try looking up kids hairstyles online, you may fine some better ideas along with instructions on how to do it.  Some hair items at the store have pics or ideas on the package, that may help.

1/2 up 1/2 down was a classic also.  Good luck and have fun with it.  Hope I was somewhat of a help

  2. All three of my girls have short hair.  The youngest has a modified pixie, my middle and eldest have "bobs"

  3. yes you can put two ponytails in the front and you can straighten the back...you can also put ponytails all over her head!!!

  4. There is a book by American Girl with a lot of cute hair styles appropriate for young girls. It does have braids as some but different styled braids and many others. My girls 7 and 9 love picking styles out of it for me to try. Go to americangirl.com it is called the "Girls Guide to Hair" or something similar. They have a lot of other books that are great for girls when they get a bit older.

  5. My kids are very fond of "piggietail wraps" which are pigtails - braided then wrapped into buns.  I can't think of anything else too unique...we also do the sectioned ponytail...that takes like ponytail holders where you pick up more hair each time and space them out about one inch apart going down the back.

  6. It's more about how you do the braids and pigtails than anything else.

    1.  Try separating the hair into 4-8 sections and twisting them individually.  Collect them all into one ponytail or into pigtails.

    2.  Do a french braid of just the hair in the front of head the goes from one ear to the other.

    3.  Put hair up in a ponytail, slip fingers through the hair between the scalp and the rubber band and flip ponytail over and through.  The ponytail will then go down the back of the neck and there will be a small twist on either side.

Be imaginative and get some new hair ties and head bands.  They spruce up any tired style.

  7. I seperate the whole top of my dd hair to the crown into 1 inch sections and twist from front to back going no further than her ears and then use little clips with butterfly wings to hold each one of them.  It is really cute.   Sometimes we just twist two pieces from the front and clip em.  Her new thing is crimped hair.  Wash at night and then put little braids in all over the place. Take them out when she gets up.  It will look so cute in the morning and will look thicker if she has thin hair.  Schunchi makes really neat hair items to do all sorts of different stuff.  The hair chopsticks are cool.

6 year olds are not really fond of curlers but mine loves a few with a BIG barrel curling iron.  I think ours is like 3 inches around.   Depending on where she is going, sometimes just using a little wash out color on piggies is cool.  I mean use the kind they make for little girls. Hannah Montana brand has a set.  You could also pull her hair back to the nape of her neck and twist upward then put a clip on and leave the top all wild and whispy.

  8. set on roller or rods.  Have ever tried flat twist?

  9. You could crimp it with a crimper, or make her hair all little braids, spray with water, let dry and unbraid.  Sleeping in soft curlers would make her hair curly, until you wash it.  And just for fun you could spray hair glitter spray onto any hairstyle to make it more fun and different.  Hope this helps.  Good Luck.
