    Difficulty: Moderately Easy

"If you skate, think of a floater like a fifty-fifty grind on a halfpipe. But remember: The bigger the wave, the bigger the re-entry. You have to be committed," says Timmy Reyes, O'Neill Surf Team rider.

    Steps

Pump your board for speed as you go down the line.

Angle up the face and project yourself toward the lip.

Bend your knees and unweight your board so it rides up on top of the lip.

Ride the back side of the lip for as long as you can, until you feel your speed starting to diminish.

Kick your tail and point your nose down the face to start your re-entry.

Drop down with the lip and land fins first.

Use your arms and knees to absorb the landing.

    Tips & Warnings

"Floaters, I think, are one of the most basic maneuvers you can do. It's a good one if you're learning to surf because you can try them in any size surf," says Timmy.

Surfing is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek the proper training and equipment before undertaking this activity.
