Question:

How to do a gymnastic back bend?

I'm starting to become interested in gymnastics, and am working on some positions at home. Specifically, I'd love to master a backbend/bridge. Despite having upper body strength, I don't seem to have any leverage to push up. What are some gradual progressions I can use to work up to it? Thanks!

  1. This is what a correctly done bridge should look like:http://www.gymnasticsrevolution.com/GymI...

    good luck

  2. Oooh! I remember learning this!

Try against a wall or something, and walk up/down the wall.

Gradually, your arm strength builds up and you get stronger. ^^

  3. just lay on your back and then push up with your arms and legs!!! then when you get more advanced you can fall into it!!!

  4. Yeah use a wall walk up and down it and when you get good at that either have someone spot you doing it or back band onto something arched so your bodies laying on it as you go back.

Also! you're going to want to work on your shoulder flexibility. Flexibility is more important than strength in this skill in my opinion.

To work on the flexibility put both arms on a flat surface[elevated surface] and while your arms are straight push your armpits to the ground. [1 of many stretches]

    hope that helps :]
