I read all the other answers, looked it up on various websites, and kept practicing but apparently everytime I do a top spin it turns into a lob...Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

  1. You probably have the racquet head way open, that is, facing the sky. To get top spin, close the racquet so that it is facing more towards the ground and hit over the ball. closed head and power through and over the ball, not under like for a lob or slice.

  2. Low to high. brush up on the ball and bend your knees.

  3. You probably need to change your grip on the racket. If your wrist is not very flexible, it might help to change the grip momentarily just before hitting the topspin by slanting the racket. For proper grip, you can see different pictures of Roger Federer just before he hits his forehand.

  4. Complete your swing, and put big spin on the ball.  Easy suggestion, choose the kind of grip you like.  If you practice to spin the ball everyday, you will start to know how to spin the ball.  Trust me, practice makes perfect.

  5. Well, when you swing your raquet is probably facing the ceiling. When you attempt topspin, you should have it facing slightly down. Before you play stick your arm straight out to the side of your body and look at it. It should look like an itallic I. So in other words slightly slanted forward. Then my tennis coach tells me... pretend your spinning a wheel. So kinda just sweep your hand under it.
