I need to do a repair install of windows xp, and I currently have SP2. I know in the past when doing this, I would lose Service Pack 2. How do I go about doing a repair install without losing SP2? Does anyone know of a link to tell me how to do this, or know the steps to doing this?

  1. I think you may have to upgrade to sp3

Other Advice: Try to reinstall Windows Xp sp2 Again

  2. reinstall xp and if you have a legit copy you can redownload sp2 from microsoft

  3. I've beeen in your shoes several times before.  You will lose SP2 no matter what you do repairing or reinstalling Windows XP.  Luckilly, microsoft has updated their Windows Update website, and it will automatically download and install SP2 for you, and most likely it may not be as large as you think you need.  Windows Update will also inform you that SP3 must also be downloaded and installed.

I thought ahead a few years ago when they came out with SP2, I got the CD... and I also got the CD with SP3 on it.  Now, if I need to repair Windows XP, I simply install SP2 and SP3 right after I install/repair Windows XP.

  4. There is a program called nLite that will allow you to slipstream the service packs, updates, features and drivers......

    http://www.nliteos.com/

Just copy you xp disk your hard drive, import the files into the program and add the service packs you desire, not to mention the drivers and features you want. You can even set it as an unattended installation, so it will install everything, including inputting your key automatically, you just pop in the disk and go to sleep....

I did this before I got my MSDN.

MSDN gives you access to microsofts entire library. Your junk mail actually costs of operating systems and development packs.....I just pile them in a cabinet for now.....

I cant sell them, or otherwise I would be violating my license, and I really can use them since I have 4 computer, only 1 of which that runs windows....
