  1. thats really surprising... well, anyways, go into it with speed-- (use 1/2 or 3/4 of the rink) front crossovers, mohawk, back crossovers-- and basically, you do a waltz jump with an extra rotation-- kick with your knee, jump high, and do 1 and 1/2 rotations in the air, with your arms and legs pulled in tightly, as if you were doing a back scratch (just the position)-- and you lift your free leg up (knee up) right before you land, and you check out from there (landing position)

  2. First of all you should get a coach that can help you progress accordingly.

Preparation: Left forward outside three turn; stepping back on a right back outside edge and then stepping forward on the left outside edge.

Takeoff:The arm and free leg are extended behind the body on the left forward outside takeoff edge. The skating knee is well bent. The extented free leg is held solidly in back to keep in ckeck over rotating prior to the jump. The knee of the free leg is bent.

Landing: the left knee lifts slightly up and then passes in a straight line close by the landing leg. Arms pushing back to a check landing position. Knee is bent and free leg is extended fully behind.

  3. Start learning your axel either from stand still or small movement, this will help you to feel and control your body better.

You have to try to jump up as high as you can and do a back spin in the air.

If you can't get you weight over your landing leg that means that you stretching your leg too far away from your body on the take off. Keep it very close to you body as you going into the jump - also make sure the right leg goes through and not round then try to feel your back spin position. Push you hips forward on the take off into the jump (that might help as well)

If you can already do that and you falling with your feet underneath your body then you almost there. Be patient and practice the jump everyday. Even when it feels it is not working and you not getting anywhere you are still making improvements and you will land the jump one day...

  4. Well I am confused...why does your coach not know how to do an axel?  What level is she?

But here is how to do an axel..

First do some back crossovers or do a forward inside mohawk. Next glide backward on an extended back outside edge. Step forward and bend the skating knee as if you are about to do a waltz jump and bend your arms and elbows back. With a swinging motion, bring your free leg in front; bend the free leg's knee as you swing the leg forward.

Bring your arms forward and jump off the ice at the same time you swing the free leg forward.

Pull your arms tightly to your chest and cross the original skating leg over the free leg.

Rotate one and one-half revolutions in the air.

Land first on your blade's toe pick and then glide onto a back outside edge. Bring your arms out and extend your free leg back as you land the jump.

Here are some tips for you too!!

Do several backspins before attempting to do the axel jump.

Before attempting the axel jump, do the following "axel walk-through exercise": step up and then do a short backspin and then pull out as if you were landing a jump.

    Practice waltz jump-loop combination jumps.

Practice axels in your shoes off the ice

Don't allow the arms to go higher than the chin or over your face.

  5. i very honestly think that if your coach is officially your coach (as in you are paying her and not just someone at a higher level than you who is teaching you tricks) that you should consider finding  someone with a smidgen more experience.

i am still learning my axel so i don't really feel comfortable telling you how to do one but i also wouldn't suggest trying one without having someone who has done MANY watching you not only to give you advice but make sure you're not approaching it in a dangerous/incorrect way based only on information you got here

if i sound mean or condescending i'm really sorry but i just want you to remember that you could get hurt and welll that would be bad.

  6. how on earth does your coach not no how to do an axel...... but anyways you shouldn't actually try an axel till you have done at least a million run throughs try doing Waltz Jump- Loop Jump but do not put your free leg down after the waltz jump.... after you can do that work on the height of the jump.... maybe you should suggest to your coach that she learns or find another coach that can do it :)
