  1. There is an escape for every lock out there, its a matter of learning them.  The best thing is to know when someone is about to put you in a lock and counter it OR take precautions so as not to get into the locks like not giving the person your arms to play with.  Some people  say to bite, once a lock is on, if the person is determained and with all the adrenalin pumping they can probably stand the pain and for sure if you bite your arm or leg will be broken, if the lock is really on and your only option is to do something crazy like bite the guy I'd hold off on that thought and just hope that the guy will hold you in the lock and not break anything

  2. Not too difficult, locks can work on fingers, wrists, elbows, arms and shoulders.  Most locks involve bending something in a manner in which it was designed not to be bent.

The idea behind fighting locks is to provide no resistance, if a person gets a standing elbow lock or arm bar, don't fight it, let it go limp and drop the elbow, once the arm is out of tension, strike with the other arm.

The best way do defend locks is not to give opportunities for them, Snap your punches in as fast as you snap them out.  If you are bottom referee's position, keep your elbows in tight.  don't give away opportunities.

  3. i find the best way to fight off locks it not to get into that position.

  4. A good way to defend against locks is to learn how to apply them to someone, and then have them applied to you. It can be difficult to defend against something if you don't even know what your looking for. A good example of this would is the Brock Lesnar-Frank Mir fight. In that fight Lesnar was totally dominating the fight, and his inexperience lost him the fight. Frank Mir was on his back getting pounded by Lesnar and used a simple leg lock and made Lesnar tapout. If Lesnar had any joint locking experience what so ever he could have easliy avoided the leg lock and most likely won that fight. Point is to learn how the various joint locks work and from the different angles they can be used from. Once you have that understanding it will make you much better at defending against them.

  5. If you a smaller guy, just try to relax your limbs and wriggle out of the lock.

If the guy is better, he's better, so if he's got you in a lock, he's got you.

  6. If someone puts you in a hold, resist or initiate an escape immedieately, before they can get a strong grip on you. Even if you don't know the "textbook" escape, keep moving.
