How to do i get video from my handy cam (camcorder) onto my computer?

hi i have a sony handycam hi8 and a windows xp. the computer's not compatable with an IEEE 1394 cable (firewire)

and the software i keep tryin to download is all scratched up. ive had it for years but never used it.

if ur vcam is a hi-8, then it's an analog vcam - there's no DV / firewire port on analog vcams. A video capture device/app is needed to convert analog video to digital.

different story if ur vcam is digi-8, firewire cable & pci card will be needed.
