  1. separate white from colours, know the material you are washing (eg:cotton, nylon). When using a washing machine  do not overload. Always follow instruction manual

  2. First of all you have to separate your clothes.  Depending on color.

    -Whites

    -Black/dark blue/dark brown

    -Red/orange

    -Jeans

With time, you will learn each item of clothing and how it reacts in water, if the color runs or not.  After years of washing I am now able to mix certain colors with my whites as I know they are color safe.   In your case, I would seperate as above.  If one of your piles is not big enough to put in the washer, wash them by hand.

Each item of clothing has a washing instruction tag which tells you what to avoid.

Wash you whites with Warm or Hot program depending on how dirty they are.    Wash your colored clothing with a cold program just to be safe.

Always check the pockets while seperating the clothes for forgtten money and paper.  Don't leave socks folded or they wont clean well.

When you've sorted your colors, open the washer, put the clothes in one by one.  Don't put socks in which are tied together or folded, they will not get washed properly.

Most washers have a special slot in which to pour the detergent and softener.   If the washer doesnt have a special place for the detergent, then sprinkle some of it in the basin before putting the clothes in, and pour the rest of it on top of the last clothes.  Always read and follow the measurement instructions on both the detergent and softener.  Using excess products will only result in your clothes having residue on them.

Once you've put the detergent/softener in the machine, close the lid and choose the programm you want.

When the washing cycle is done you need to hang them up to dry.  It's not necessary to do so immediately, but by doing it right away, you will have less wrinkles.  Leaving them in the washer overnight especially during the summer is going to result in stinky clothes.

If you're not able to hang them up because of rain, buy yourself a folding clothes dring line and put it somwhere in your house to dry.  Not in your bedroom.  Perhaps the bathroom.

If you don't have time to hang them up then at least remove them from the washer, fold them as nice as you can to avoid them getting more creased and lay them in a basin somewhere until you can hang them to dry.  The fresh air will stop them from smelling unless you leave them too long.
