  1. Lot's of good books on the subject. Author I recommend Bruce Pandolfinni

  2. There is no "best" defence.  You have to be able to adapt to your opponent's strategy and tactics. That's the whole point of the game.

  3. i would suggest some variation of the sicilian defense- google it to read the exact moves (since i don't study chess openings)

other than that, i agree with the two answers before me- a lot of chess is figuring out what your opponent is trying to do & come up with something to stop/ counter that strategy

  4. put all ur pawns in a diagonal pattern

  5. Hi friend i am a chess master.

It is not difficult for me to understand that you are an absolute

beginner, and that you don't have a deep understanding of the game.

I agree with the previous guy,but i would like to

highlight that chess is governed by some rules.

Rules of chess ,are very different from the laws of nature.Laws

of chess are not applicable always ,but just the most times.

Now its time to answer your question.

The best defense in chess will be very often an attack ,which may give you the chance to beat your opponent.

I dont think there is a best trap. There are just traps

that are very good ,with many victims.

In order to be more specific i have to use the chess notation

(it is not very difficult to learn it, i think wikipedia would be  a good source but there are too many other sites in the web which can teach you chess notation. After you ve learn it come here again and read the answer...)

Chess has been played for 500 hundred years, and a theory has been created: the chess theory.

According to this theory ,there are 2 basic rules,

which you have to apply the most times in a position on the chessboard.

The first rule says that you have to develop your bishops, knights, and finally rooks AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

Queens must be the last piece developed.

The second rule says that you have to CONTROL THE CENTER WITH PAWNS.

The center of the chessboard are the squares e4 ,d4,e5,d5

Therefore, give importance to the following advice ,which can be of extreme importance when you play against your friends.

IF YOU ARE PLAYING WHITE AND YOU CAN TO THIS ,PUT YOUR PAWNS ON E4 AND D4 this will give you more

space ,and the best chances to win.

Your opponent (the most possible)will play moves like pawn to a6.,pawn to a5 etc

IF YOU ARE PLAYING BLACK AND YOU CAN TO THIS PUT YOUR PAWNS TO D5 AND E5 ,this will limit his chances.

If you are playing white the following move is the most popular

    1. e4 ,which means you move the pawn ,in front of your knig 2 squares. If you are playing black ,and your opponent has played this move the best defence is pawn to c5.

but also good is pawn to e5.

Now i will give you a very popular trap ,in which black looses

    Try to memorize the moves.

    1.e4 ... e5

    2.Nf3 ...f6

    3.Nxe5 !(good move)

    ...fxe5

4.Qh5 check(if black plays ...g6 he looses his rook after Qxe5 check.)

    ...Ke7

    5.Qxe5 check

    ...Kf7

    and black will loose easily

    after Bc4 check

its not easy to find out how ,but your friends will not play

    the best moves...

I have to teach you many more things ,but i don't have time.

Just have in your mind a good "defense" which can be applied almost no matter what your opponent will play

    1.Nf3 ,2.g3 ,3.Bg2,4.0-0,5.d3,6.Nbd2,7.Qe1,

    8.e4,9.Qe2 etc

If you study these things you will beat many more people than

    you can imagine !

Let me know if you have any questions

CHESS IS NOT AN EASY GAME !
