How to do the splits?

I dance ballet and just CANNOT do the splits! My teacher just makes me stretch as far as I can with my legs going side to side and up and down but I still can't do it. :( Is there anyway for me to learn?

  1. just stretch a lot before ballet class so you'll be warm for class.  also, stretch every day so maybe you're teacher will be impressed when you can go a little farther.  let her bring your legs past your comfort zone to stretch your legs out more than  usual.

    hope that helps :)

  2. Don't worry... you will eventually get your splits!!!  But in the mean time, here are some simple stretches to help you to reach your goal.

    Extend Runners Stretch

    1.  Go down into the runner's stretch

    2.  Straighten the leg that is extended behind you until  your knee is on the ground.

    3.  Stay in that position for a min. of 60 second

    4.  Switch sides and repeat

    That's just one stretch...

You may also try lots of floor stretches.  One for example, is sitting on the floor with your legs in second.  Place your hands behind you on the floor (just behind your legs) and push forward.  This will stretch your inner legs, that you need for the splits.

Like I said, do lots of floor stretches.  Almost anything that stretches your inner legs will help you with the splits.

Good Luck...  Be patient too.  It took me 4 years for me to master mine.  Be sure to hold each stretch for a min. of 60 seconds!!!  Bye...

  3. you just have to stretch everyday a few times a day. you will get there. you just have to work for it

  4. Yeah just listen to your teacher and go beyond your comfort point. Stretch until it hurts and one day you'll be able to do a split.
