  1. mostly splits, although some back flexibility will help keep your chest up, you have to have reasonably strong legs in order to maintain this position.

With your splits, stretch them numerous ways, by yourself, with a friend while laying on your back, against a wall.

    Good luck!

  2. Lear how to do your splits:)

  3. sit in your spilt everyday once you can comfortably do alll your left and rights then put a phone book under the front book and sit that way until your hips are all the way down. keep adding books. also sit in your normal splits and reach back (arch) as far as you can.

make sure you do these on both sides

thats wut i did and i have my ponche

  4. hello, in order to be able to do this you need to have good balance, strength and be able to do the splits which means you need :

    Lower Back Stretches

    Lying Buttock Stretch

    Groin & Inner-Thigh Stretch

    Seated Calf Stretch

    Seated Hamstring Stretch

    Seated Inner-Thigh Stretch

    Psoas Stretch

    Quadricep Stretch

    Lying `V' Stretch

this is the link to the website that will tell you how to do these strechtes, if you need it: http://www.ifafitness.com/stretch/stretc...

hope this helps. Good luck =)

  5. PRACTICE.

Do lots of splits, grand battements, etc.  You could try holding that pose in a doorway (I do every day @dance class), it makes it much easier with support.  You can also stand with your hands against a wall and have a friend hold your leg up there, as high as it'll go (you can usually go higher with support than just by yourself.)

And of course, try the real thing regularly, getting up higher every time, until - whoopee! - there you are doing it like the picture!

  6. just your back and your splits and alot of practice. the best of luck

  7. splits are a good place to start, BUT flexibility without strength isn't going to be alot of good to you. you should also be doing strengthening exercises (simply doing arabesque presses would help).

As far as stretching, do splits on the floor, and do, what I call, the 'killer arabesque drill." start with your face to the barre, developé into arabesque, have a friend gently push your leg up to stretch. it is MORE IMPORTANT that you maintain proper placement and turn out than height. If you don't (and only push for height) you will develop awful habits that will actually make doing this deep of a panché even more difficult. REMEMBER, something like this takes time, it will come, but you will be happier if you take the time to do it right.

also remember that when you stretch one set of muscles, you need to stretch the muscles on the opposite side, so make sure you are giving your body a nice over-all stretch as well!!

honestly, the girl's technique in the picture isn't all that great, try and do it better, equal turn-out on both legs will help!!

    Best of luck!
