You need a program called iTunes. This has been developed specially for the iPod. It is free to download and use. It manages your music files on both your PC and your iPod using what it called a library.

This program will also take the tunes from a CD and put them into your library for transfer to your iPod, as well as allowing you to add music files or folders of music files to your library, again for you to transfer to your iPod.

Depending on your iPod, you can download album artwork for the songs, and they will display on the screen as the songs play for you.

When you plug it in, a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo will pop-up. Follow the instruction and download iTunes.

Put all your music into the iTunes library. It automatically converts them into mp3s and puts them onto your iPod :)

1) download and install itunes

2) open your music collection in itunes

3) when you plug your ipod in, itunes should pop up and ask you if you want to automatically sync ALL your songs to your ipod. this is probably the best option

but if you click 'manually manage music', then you will just drag and drop the songs from the itunes library into your ipod in the 'devices' section.
