Question:

How to draw eyes that seem to be looking at you.

It's a cartoon character and the eyes are black. I want them to look like they are staring at you, but his head is angled to the right of the page so it looks like he is glancing to the right. How do I draw an eye that appears to be looking right at you. Is it the angel that you draw the eye or maybe the shading? I know it's hard to help because you aren't looking at it, but who knows.

Thanks

  1. It's difficult to explain in words, but it's the angle more than anything else. If the character is looking to the right, centred eyes will of course also be looking to the right, so you need to move them around to the left to the same degree the head is angled to the right.

What I suggest that you do is look around online for images of eyes, and find one that has the kind of angle you are looking for, so you can copy the placement of the iris/pupil. This image for example:

I don't know if that's exactly what you need, but it's a good idea to use a reference for anything you're not sure of until you have the practice to be able to do it yourself.

    Good luck!
