How to draw lips forming letters, like in comics?

you know how in comic books you have a speech bubble, and the drawing often has the person moving their lips as if they were in the middle of a word, as if the picture was a stopped frame of the person talking. I was wondering if anyone could tell me/ recommend a website or book where I could learn the typical mouth shapes for all of the sounds or letters. One example would be how to draw someone making a 'v' sound. Thank you very much for your help!

  1. I think in this case, nothing beats a handheld mirror. Make the sounds yourself, observe your reflection, and experiment with a few sketches.

It's also worth considering that the position of a character's mouth while they're speaking is less about the actual sound and more about their emotional state in the moment you've chosen to capture. Find out what emotion they're trying to express (or trying to hide) and hopefully the shape of the mouth will dictate itself.
