  1. i have the perfect book! its called How to Draw Manga in Your Own Unique Style. its by Bruce Lewis, its excellent. best drawing book ever. take my word for it.

  2. Step1

First think of what kind of character you want to draw. Is it male or female? Will it have long hair or short?

    Step2

Next take your pencil and start with the head. Make the top half of the head first. It should look like half an oval. Then, draw the other half of the oval, depending on the gender of your character. If it is a female, the face will be more slender and the chin more pointed. If it is male, then the face will be broader and the chin may be more square.

    Step3

Now start to fill in the face. First, you start with the eyes which will take up most of the first half of your oval. Manga characters always have ever big eyes. Make it circular shaped and evenly across from each other. It is important to be able to see the pupils of the eyes. This holds most of your character’s personality.

    Step4

You now need to draw the nose, which is not that hard to do, so people calm down!! All you need to do is to draw a small right angle in the center of the head. Then shade in the inside of the angle where the nostril might be and you’re done with the evil nose of doom. Everyone says that the nose is the hardest part and they are lying; we’ll get to the hard part later.

    Step5

Ok, so the mouth is very simple. Just draw a line under the nose and above the chin. Now shade under the line slightly and, you’re done unless you want a smile or frown in which case tilt the line up or down. It is not very hard at all.

    Step6

Now look at your face and compare it to your mental image. Has the personality changed? Do you need to change your mental image of it? Image what the hair looks like depending on personality. A wanna be tough guy might have his hair slicked back or wild and sticking out. On the other hand a wild fun loving girl might have long curly hair or a short boy cut hair. Athletes will have short hair or pulled in a pony tail, etc

    Step7

Now try and draw the hair you imagined. A good place to start is the scalp in case you are completely clueless. It is natural for the hair to fall into the characters face, but keep in mind even though your person does not really have to see, other people might. So don’t ruin your face just because you got carried away with the hair.

    Step8

Next let’s put the head somewhere where it isn’t floating in space. The neck and shoulders are often a good place to start for that. Keep in mind that a female’s neck may be longer and the shoulders smaller than a male’s unless it’s one of those kick-butt chicks. In that case, the shoulders will be as big as a male’s due to muscle strength, but the neck will remain long and elegant.

    Step9

Next is the torso. First you must think again depending on both gender and age this time. For example, a small child will have neither the upper body muscles of the adult or teenage male nor the shape of the nicely built female adult or teenager. I will assume that you are drawing a teenager because I am limited as this is for a school assignment I will not tell you how to draw all of the body I will only say that a male has a square shaped torso and a female has a milk glass shaped torso.

    Step10

Stop here and think of what your character is doing, running, walking, waving, etc. Now try to express that in your person’s arms. Are they by their side? Are they folded? Keep in mind your own drawing ability and if hands are a bit too much, just allow the hands to be folded across your character’s front or behind their back. It is better to hide the hands then mess up your hopefully already wonderful character.

    Step11

Next you need to draw the legs. This can most likely be done with drawing a triangle under the torso. Then erase the bottom of the triangle. Drawing legs from that so you have your shape.

    Step12

Last you have to draw ovals for the feet. Remember that they will be quite big.

    Step13

If you would like to outline your character in ink or color it now is the time. Good luck drawing on clothes. Unhappily it would take me months to cover that.
