  1. Do you want to be a good surfer, or for dumb people to think you look like a surfer? There's a big difference.

It sounds like you want dumb people to think you look like a surfer. In that case, why not go to the hairdresser and get them to put al kinds of blonde highlights in your hair and ruff it all up so that it looks like you're been in the surf all day, everyday. A bottle of fake tan will help you look all brown and tanned too.

Get yourself a pair of reef sandles or those new Donovan Frankenreiter shoes that are in all the magazines now and just wear dirty boardshorts to school everyday. A t-shirt with some kind of slogan on it like "Charlie don't surf" or "Jack the Ripper" would get the point accross. Otherwise, on e-bay, you can probably find an old t-shirt from some exotic surf destination like Bali or Hawaii or the Gold Coast, just to make people think you're been there. That would go nice with a Hawaiian Lei, or chain of flowers around the neck and a pair of the latest "Electric" brand sunglasses - get the Bruce Irons one - he's cool. Grow a bit of stubble, if you can and you'll look every inch the cool surfer dude to anyone who doesn't know any better.

Or you could just put all that effort into going surfing everyday and looking good in the water, rather than at school. I think you'll get more respect that way

    Hope that helps

  2. if you surf, the way you dress is surfer !

  3. i definitely agree with John. That's so true. When you truly love to surf the joy just shines right through you and people will notice. You can tell someone's a surfer just by the way they carry them self. Don't act it....be it, and don't try either. Not all surfers look like and are bums. The reason why some of them do is because they just don't care about looks, all they want is surf. Be yourself. Become a better surfer, by practicing and doing it because you want to. I live in hawaii and you can tell who's the real surfer and whose not. Posers definitely wear surf clothes. My surfer boyfriend wears nice button down shirts to school with jeans and regular skate shoes (no holes might i add) but when he's out there surfing, people know he's one of the best out there. Be yourself bro.

  4. Surf clothes do not a surfer make! I have been surfing for 42 years. When I was a kid, I dressed like any other kid. I grew up and I dressed  like other adults. I didn't need a costume to feel like a surfer. It's what is in your heart, and how you feel in the water that makes you a surfer, not how you talk or dress. There are probably people reading this stuff now, who are wearing all kinds of surfing clothes, but live in Nebraska and have never even seen the ocean. Be yourself, both at land and in the line-up, and you will be much happier in the long run.  I know it's tough being a teenager, just go surfing, and feel the joy.

  5. yea i agree with john and kathy on this one

  6. Just talk to peopel and make friends, mention you surf. Surf clothes, h**l, so many people wear them. For instance, the Billabong and Quiksilver stores in NYC, not surf shops, they're  clothing stores. Best way to let people know you surf is make friends and ask them if they want to go surf. Or just paddle out in the lineup and meet people. And surfers don't wear all the same clothes, just look at Donovan or Jamie O. Anyway, surf brand clothing is kinda mixed in with skating too. So like Vans and stuff like that. But if you want people to know you surf, tell 'em.
