How to drill on underside of plastic door jamb?

I'm trying to drill a track on the top underside of a door frame for a folding louvre door, but every s***w I drill in falls out of the plaster/dry wall(don't really know the diff), and I'm having no luck finding studs with a studfinder. is there a piece of hardware that i can use that will have a stronger hold in plaster, since I can't find a stud?...or any other suggestions?

THANKS!

  1. You might just try using a longer s***w...try a 3 or 4 inch s***w. Going up through that plastic you may not be making it all the way to the 'header board' that goes across top of door.

In one of those holes you already have drilled...use a piece of wire ( coat hanger ) and stick up inside there to see how far it is till you hit solid wood.. That way you will know how long of a s***w you need.

  2. quick answer is no. There should be timber all the way around a door frame though.

  3. Plastic or lead anchors

  4. I encountered this situation once!

I had to use drywall anchors. Lowes carries an anchor that just s***w right into the drywall them your fastener can be screwed into the anchor. You can get them in plastic or metal. If memory serves, I believe the metal ones were rated to 40lbs.

Tried finding you a link, but their site is undergoing maintenance

    Finally found it!!!
