How to dual boot with windows 98?

i currently have a computer with windows 98 and i would like to be able to dual boot and i have a live disk (ubuntu 7.10) but i dont know how to do it

  1. First off, if your going for linux you have to know some basics about hard drives -- the partitioning part

    Start by installing windows 98 (if it finds all the driver congrats - I cant make it find drivers on a windows 2000 machine) then boot up ubuntu. When it gets to the partitioning resize your windows 98 partition to whatever you see fit (just not too small) and build a partition for ubuntu (DO NOT CHOOSE CREATE NEW PARTITION TABLE - had a friend who did that - lost all of his school notes before an exam)

    During the install process the installer is going to ask about installing GRUB choose install to mbr and then it should work.  


  2. The Ubuntu installer will offer you the option to add the new install as a second os. Watch the messages.
