HEY!

I'm dying my hair red. It's the beginning of college and all and I wanna have some fun WITHOUT getting drunk or being stupid. Right now my hair is a chestnut/dark brown and my eyebrows/lashes are dark but I'd like to go red for my hair. What shade/brand/type should I go get and use? It doesn't have to look 'all natural'.. I know it won't ...but I don't want a purple color or something.

Also, my skin is a peachy, medium tone. My hair is long, almost elbow length. Aaaand...yeah. :P

What do you think?!? Help me out here PLLEEAASE!!

  1. Well, if you want a cartoony fire engin red like this: http://www.users.bigpond.com/lillith/cur... you'll have to bleach it first. Be forewarned: once you bleach, there's no going back. you can dye it back to brown, but it will never look the same, or feel the same.

If you just want a deep auburn like this: http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/de... then that's the product to use. it's easy and it looks really good. :)

  2. I think you need to get yourself to a salon. Maybe it would be better to invest some good money into having your fun. Especially if you won't be needing it for booze ;)

I'd say try some highlights.. like a dark red and a light red with your brown mixed in it. Add a cute new cut to finish off the look and be ready for the next journey in life!

    Good luck!

  3. If you want to try a semi-permanent (it will wash out in maybe 8-10 washes depending on brand) then you really can't go wrong.  If you don't like it, it will be gone very soon and then you can try a new color.  I found that many of the brands at the reg. drug store work equally well.  However, if you want to go permanent (several weeks-months) for your length of hair that can be a pain to dye and have it come out evenly.  Have you thought of going to get it done by a beauty school?  They are really inexpensive and I found that most of those students are really into trying any crazy idea that pops into the heads of their clients.  They are learning and they want to try and experiment with new ideas. They also have access to professional hair dye, a larger variety of colors and it is much better quality than what you can buy over the counter.  They will even help you pick out which red will go best with your skin tone.  Sometimes it may take a little longer, they are going slower/they are new, but I have never been displeased with anything I get done.  But I also don't take myself all that seriously, I want to look good but I don't think that the only good hair cut must be over $100.  Make sure to ask that the teachers walk around to double check the students work.  But overall, it's less uptight, you don't have to worry about messing it up yourself, and most importantly it's fun.  Hope this helps.

  4. i  think if you are going to de our hair and you dont want it to look all weird the best kind of brands are the ones salons have the also do a better job. it is more expensive but well worth it. they'll give you small hair samples of different shades of red and also their opinion in what would look best on you. Good Luck!
