How to eat cheap but not be unhealthy?

It seems like foods that are the best for you also cost the most! (35 cents for a box of mac and cheese, 10 cents for ramen noodles!!)

How can I cook healthy and not go out of my budget?

  1. plant a garden!

  2. You can make all sorts of bean dishes using dried beans.  Beans are low in fat, but very high in fiber and protein to keep your stomach full.

Some ideas of inexpensive bean dishes:

burritos (use soft tortillas, spread on some mashed beans, hot sauce, a little cheese or onion if you have it)

    bean soup

    red beans and rice

    baked beans

  3. Shop at Wal-mart, buy in bulk, or buy the products that are generic & don't have such a well-known brand name if the ingredients & product is still the same & healthy

  4. Mac and cheese and ramen noodles aren't healthy.

    Whats your budget?

A box of Cream of wheat is 2.49, very healthy and lasts a while.

  5. Salads..fruits and vegetables. You can always find boneless skinless chicken breast some where for 1.99 a pound. Celery..peanut butter. Banana's are always cheap. I guess that I some what disagree that the best foods are to expensive.

  6. Go to a farmer's market for produce .... check for marked-down items in the produce, deli & meat section of your grocery store ...  Make large salads, with nuts, cheese, tofu for dinner.  Maybe add drained beans (taco salad), or leftover grilled chicken or beef ...  Have eggs for dinner

  7. Instead of going to department stores, if you can manage, find a farmer's market. Before my husband and I were married we were just poor college students. We shopped at Aldi's (a off-brand food store) and found a nice local farmer's market. Aldi's has fresh fruits and veggies, and if you look hard enough you can find a lot of other healthy, cheap food there. Don't eat out. Avoid soda pop and pre-prepared foods. Instead of getting pop and unhealthy juice (there's a lot of sugar and sometimes high frutose corn syrup in it usually) drink water.

    Good luck!!!!!

  8. Buy unbranded foods, plant your own vegetables( if possible), use little oil for cooking, buy fruit and vegetables in the market instead of supermarket.

  9. Broccoli is pretty cheap, filling, and really healthy too! I also found this list of some other healthy bargain foods.

  10. The healthiest way to shop is to shop the outside of the store..... produce, meats, dairy. Stay away from all the processed food in the center of the stores except for rice and beans. Buy what is on sale, apples this week pears next week..... It takes a little longer to cook but is oh so much healthier for you.

  11. Fruits and vegtebals..

To save money, go buy packets of seeds and plant them..

It may be a little late now..

    But next year.

    Its a great investment
