  1. Place the spoon, fork, or knife in the same hand that you do in the US.  Use them the way you would at Thanksgiving.

  2. Traditions are different in different regions of Italy (North, Sicilia, etc.). Some use a spoon eating pasta, some no. Some consider bad style to use a knife and suck better.

  3. The Italians do not switch knives and forks, as Americans do. When both are to be used, the knife remains in the right hand, and the fork remains in the left.

Instead of cutting lettuce in a salad, you are expected to fold it with your knife and fork so that it forms a small bundle that can be picked up with your fork.

If you are served pasta, do not use a spoon for assistance in handling it. Instead, discreetly use a fork and the sides of the bowl or plate to twirl the pasta into a manageable bundle. Then place the entire forkful of pasta into your mouth at once; slurping the strands is considered poor manners.

  4. Okay i think you want to know how to eat pasta(specifically spegetti) in italy without destroying the meal in front of you .

Knives and spegetti are like oil and water . you can see the english from a mile a way massacreing there spegetti by chopping it up into tiny pices .

spegetti is ment to be eaten with a fork and if you haveing   issues a spoon to help .

place you fork in about 2 or 3 strands of spegetti and twirl it the spegtti shouls spin on to the fork . Many use  the side of there plate or bowl to stop the pasta from falling off . More novices use a spoon against the fork , spoon is good stops mess and makes sure all the pasta gets on your fork

    enjoy with some vino

  5. same way you do in the usa

  6. the same way you eat with those utensils anywhere else in the world.  I'm sure there is no law against them in Italy
