The L3 cache is disabled in Vista 64 (even if it is enabled in BIOS) causing the CPU to run signifugantly slower certain applications. What to do to enable it?

  1. I don't think the OS has any control over if the cache is used or not. It may just be misreported in Vista.

  2. Are you sure?

    Do this first :

Download CPU-Z and check if the program detects the correct amount on L3 cache. If it is. Then it is working correctly.

However, if you are thinking of the TLB fix Microsoft included with the Vista SP1 patch. You can do this to remove it and thus get improved performance.

PS. If you're thinking that 4 cores mean 4X the performance in games, you're wrong sadly. You're even lucky to get 50% performance because most games don't even support dual cores.
